Thoroughly upstaged by the quality, the sheer bravado of the preceding year. I have always liked this now somewhat underrated and largely overlooked vintage. It was particularly successful in pomerol.

Château Certan Giraud
This Certan Giraud vineyard, which adjoins Petrus, produces a high-level cru whose quality has continued to improve. It demonstrates great aromatic richness. Very ripe, it is full-bodied and voluptuous on the palate. Its bouquet is fine and elegant. In 1999, the Giraud family sold the Certan Giraud vineyard to Etablissements Moueix, and the cru was renamed Château Hosanna.
