Ranking Sauternes - 1er Cru Classé Supérieur 

The Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855 was created at the request of Napoleon III. It dinstinguishes the red wines classification (all from the Medoc except Haut Brion from Pessac Léognan), and sweet white wines classification.
The classification of sweet white wines, all of which are Sauternes and Barsac, is divided into 3 categories: first superior growthfirst growth and second growth.
Château d'Yquem is the only one to hold the ultimate title of first superior growth.
