"Fonroque has always given birth, during great years, to very good wines. These were often warm vintages, which supported relatively high yields and for which ripeness issues did not arise, on a terroir where some components are not very early-ripening. But the reputation of a terroir is also made, perhaps even especially, from small vintages. There was clearly an economic sacrifice to be made. Moreover, the search for optimal ripeness had to be rethought from the source, in order to ensure the harvest of ripe fruits regardless of the year's climatic conditions. . "
