One of the wines of this incredible vintage is unquestionably the 300-case 2007 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve des Deux Frères from the Usseglio brothers. A big bruiser of a wine that has a huge core of cassis and blackcurrant fruit, it gets more and more elegant with time in the glass and offers complex notes of roasted meats, garrigue, beef blood, liquorice and truffle. Made from 100% Grenache aged mostly in new barrels, it's absorbed every trace of its élevage and is just a sensational Châteauneuf-du-Pape to drink over the coming 10-15 years.

I'm not sure Châteauneuf-du-Pape gets much better than this. In a year or two, this should hit triple digits. It's incredibly concentrated, the wine coats your mouth palate, teeth and gums with waves of perfectly, polished, ripe, sweet berries. Everything is in balance. The fruit offered a beautiful sense of purity and the finish is seamless.

High alcohol, huge fruit bomb with tremendous depth and length. Decanted for 3 hours and it probably needed another hour or two. Jammy and hearty Grenache made by Frenchmen who emulate the full-throttle / over-the-top style of new world winemakers.
