Expert opinion :

Robert Parker
92/100 (1998)
In earlier editions of this book I complained about bottle variation, but three tastings over the last several years from bottles that had been perfectly stored revealed a splendid wine. The 1962 is extremely fragrant, with a dark garnet color revealing lightening at the edge. A sweet nose of jammy black fruits, cedar, and smoke is followed by a velvety-textured, medium to full-bodied wine with no hard edges. It is a compellingly rich, opulent Mouton that appears to have gained character and complexity with age.

Wine Spectator
93/100 (5-1991)
Surprisingly youthful despite the light garnet and brown edges, with young raspberry notes, tobacco box aromas and cassis notes. Developed beautiful coffee, mint and chocolate tones in the glass.

Michael Broadbent
4/5 (5-1999)

Frank Dubourdieu
93/100 (9-2007)

Infos Château :

Purchased in 1853 by Nathaniel de Rothschild, Brane Mouton became a legend under the name of Mouton-Rothschild. With the advent of Baron Philippe de Rothschild Chateau Mouton Rothschild became the truly monumental 1er Cru it is today. In addition to the construction of cellars and buildings, and the ascension to 1er Cru status, it is the passion of a lifetime manifested in action by this remarkable man.

Ranked Second Cru in 1855, it is now, since 1973, a premier cru classe. His motto became "First I am, second I was, Mouton does not change."

The elegance and magic of this wine has charmed the most important contemporary artists who each year, illustrate their an original work of art on the label of Chateau Mouton Rothschild. Chateau D'Armailhac and Chateau Clerc Milon followed suit in the quality of the Rothschild family.
