Romanée Conti is a celebrated appellation in Burgundy. This AOC appellation is often recognized as being the best in the entire Burgundy region. It is a grand cru from the Côte de Nuits section where the vines are grown in the town of Vosne Romanée. The only grape variety used is pinot noir and which makes exclusively red wine. The area of the appellation is a bit more than 1.8 hectares which makes about 6000 bottles per year. The Romanée Conti appellation is the exclusive property of the Leroy and Villaine families. These families are also head of other appellations in Burgundy and sell their Romanée Conti wine in mixed cases of 13 wines made up of 1 bottle of Romanée Conti and the other wines from the Richebourg, Echezeaux and Grands Echezeaux appellations. A very prestigious wine, Romanée Conti presents a somber ruby color and obtains a dark red pigment with age. Red fruits, violet and undergrowth are some of the aromas perceived to the nose. The body is complete, clear and strong. This unique aromatic palate goes well with strong meats, game meat and game birds. To honor this great wine and to appreciate it the best, it is advised to serve it at 15° to 16°.
